Markets In Focus Webinar | Tuesday 23 January

During our January webinar we looked at how the first few weeks of 2024 have shaped up for markets and discussed the year ahead for investors.

As 2023 drew to a close many global stock markets were on an incredible run, with equities rallying throughout November and December.

Despite the recent rally in almost all risk assets, there remains more potential for much of the equity, bond, property and infrastructure markets heading into the new year. If you exclude the magnificent seven, prices are not that elevated and some are still relatively cheap, which is certainly good grounds for investor optimism.

So, what will be the main drivers in performance this year, and what sectors and geographies should investors be looking to exploit for healthy returns?

Markets In Focus Webinar | Tuesday 24 October

Catch up with the IBOSS Investment Team as they explore the newly named IBOSS Decumulation MPS range in more detail and explain the benefits it can offer when it comes to a retirement income option for your clients.

In Q1 2023, the FCA began conducting a thematic review of retirement income advice and aim to publish an impending report setting out their findings during Q4.

In this review, they will examine how the retirement income advice market is functioning and will also focus on how firms are responding to changing consumer needs as a result of the rising cost of living.

Given the wider range of retirement options available, it is vital that consumers get good advice at the point they first access their pension savings and, where relevant, on an ongoing basis.

Advice in this area can be complex, so it is important firms understand the needs of their consumers and ensure they have adequate solutions available to deliver consistently suitable advice.

As well as discussing how IBOSS can support advisers and planners in this space ahead of the FCA's findings, we also looked at recent market movements and share the performance of the other IBOSS MPS ranges.

Markets In Focus Webinar | Tuesday 19 September

During our September webinar we were joined by Mark Sherlock, Head of US Equities, Lead Portfolio Manager, at Federated Hermes Limited.

For most of the last 20 years, though not since 2018, the valuations of the US mid and small-cap indices have been higher than the S&P 500, but currently they trade on a near-record discounts. Furthermore, US small caps have underperformed for seven consecutive years, leaving the Russell 2000 index with a combined market value of less than Apple.

However, the argument for mean reversion is compelling and valuations are relatively cheap, therefore, there are some attractively valued investment opportunities in the small mid-cap space. But, is now a good time to get involved and invest for the long term, or is more patience required for investors due to macro-economic and geo-political factors?

Mark and the IBOSS Investment Team discussed the pros and cons of the current US SMID market and whether now is the right time for investors to increase their portfolio holdings.

We also had updates on the very latest performance from the IBOSS MPS portfolios with Chris Rush, IBOSS Investment Manager.

Markets In Focus Webinar | Thursday 5 January

During our January webinar we took a look at the year ahead for markets and investors.

From an investment perspective, 2022 was a year which will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons. Not a single asset class was immune from the extreme volatility that plagued markets as inflation and interest rates crept up.

Although an overused word, it’s fair to say that 2022 was ‘unprecedented’ in terms of how tough market conditions were, with bonds and equities falling in unison for only the second time in the past 20 years.

However, as the year drew to a close, many global stock markets began to claw their way out of bear market territory, and although they aren’t quite out of the woods yet, we believe the investing landscape is starting to look a lot more positive heading into 2023.

So, what will be the main drivers in performance this year, and what sectors and geographies should investors be looking to exploit?

Catch up with the IBOSS Investment Team who shared their views on what they think will work well and what areas to avoid in the new year.

Market Update Webinar | Thursday 15 December

During our December webinar we were joined by Mark Slater, Chairman and Chief Investment Officer at Slater Investments.

The UK economy, just like the rest of the world, is currently facing one of its toughest times in recent history and it may take some time to climb out of the rut it's currently in. That means there could be more volatility ahead.

However, for investors, the UK stock market is a separate entity to the economy and 2023 is starting to look more positive in terms of opportunities and the potential for returns. This includes the Slater Growth fund, which is held across multiple IBOSS ranges, and like many UK funds right now is looking cheap relative to history.

The Q&A session saw our Investment Team and Mark discuss the UK equity investing backdrop, and specifically where opportunities are being found, as well as any continuing Brexit effects and quantifying the outcomes of developing UK government policies.

Financial health and mental health are often closely linked, money problems can be a major cause of stress and anxiety, causing mental ill health or exacerbating an existing mental health condition.

The Mental Capacity Act covers important decisions relating to an individual's property, financial affairs, and health and social care. It can help support people with possible memory impairment, their carers and professionals to make decisions, both now and in the future.
